Whether you are doing the NC500/Touring by road bike or wish to use us as a base, the area has some wonderful road cycling. With the beautiful landscape and quiet roads you are always being invited to cycle just that little bit more. A particular favourite of mine is cycling on the Inverpolly/Assynt single track roads. You can do the Lochinver-Drumbeg-Lochinver loop or the Drumrunie-Lochinver-Drumrunie loop. More locally there is a very enjoyable cycle from Forest Way and over the An Teallach road to Dundonnell and back. It may be only 30-40 miles (always an option to cycle a bit further if desired) but lots of big climbs (some at 15% gradient), twice from sea level to around 330m, make this a a good workout. The stunning views of An Teallach and surrounding landscape make this a most asthetically pleasing route.
There are no specific MTB trails near us (nearest is over on east coast at Golspie) however there are a number of great forest trails and estate/drover roads that offer a varied but entertaining cycling for all abilities. In my training for the Strathpuffer MTB event I used the Inverlael Forest which has a vast network of good forestry tracks which would be suitable for most people including families. From Ullapool there is a great route for all abilities along the Rhidorroch road to Glen Achall. If you fancy something more of a challenge then I can recommend a fantastic 57 mile route from Black Bridge.
There are many more road and MTB routes and I will gradually add to this site over the next year with links to GPX files and Strava.
